Are you UP-TO-DATE on your health screenings?

Most adults ignore or neglect the recommended yearly preventive care services required. Make sure you get your screenings on schedule and talk with your provider about their recommendations for the screenings below and others.


Breast Cancer: The American Cancer Society recommends that women should get a mammogramevery year starting at age 45. Women ages 55 and older can get one every (2) two years or continue with the annual screenings.


Cerivical Cancer: The U.S Preventive Services Task Force suggest that women ages 21 to 65 should get a Pap test once every (3) three years. Woman ages 30 to 65 years can choose to have a pap test once every five years along with a humanpapillomavirus (HPV) test. Women over 65 who have had normal screenings and do not have a high risk for cervical cancer do not need Pap tests. Talk with your provider about the schedule that is best for you.


Colorectal cancer: Start periodic testing for this disease at the age of 50. If the disease runs in your family, then its recommended that your start testing earlier.


Prostate Cancer: Men should start screening starting the age of 50 or 55. Discuss the advantages and limitations of prostate cancer starting at the age of 50 with your care provider.


It's always good to have a head start when it comes to our health. Getting yearly preventive screenings can definitly save many lives each year.
